Session 2 of pv magazine 2021 Roundtables USA, titled, “Solar everywhere: what the solar industry needs to accelerate deployment” focused on the details of the Biden administration’s Solar Futures initiative, factors that influence the selection of non-traditional sites for solar, and the risks that must be overcome for solar to achieve ambitious growth goals.
This session included a panel discussion titled, “Lead, follow, or get out of the way: What solar needs to expand” and included Suzanne Leta, Head of Policy and Strategy | SunPower; Elizabeth Sanderson, Executive Director | Solar Energy International (SEI); Dean Solon, Founder | Shoals Technologies Group, and Paul Wormser, Vice President, Technology | Clean Energy Associates (CEA).
The panel discussed the obstacles that need to be removed for that solar to expand in the US, the policies that need to be in place, and possible supply chain adjustments that may be necessary.
Questions that were addressed included:
Can the supply chain meet the demand for rapid growth?
How can solar development costs be driven lower
Where will the next-generation workforce be found and what skills will it need to have?
What financial incentives are critical to support solar investment?
