Deploying High Efficiency: PV Cell and Module Manufacturing Trends and Concepts - pv magazine Roundtables Europe 2022

pv magazine Roundtables Europe Addresses PV Cell and Module Manufacturing Trends

It is an exciting time in PV cell and module manufacturing, as the switch to high performance n-type technologies gathers pace. This year, products featuring the latest TOPCon and heterojunction cell technologies are becoming more widely available in formats suitable for both the rooftop and large-scale segments.

There remains a gap between the upfront price of high efficiency n-type and more established and cost-optimized cell technologies. Recent supply chain disruptions have muddied the waters further when it comes to understanding how both solar cell prices and technologies are developing.

CEA’s Senior Director of Technology & Quality, George Touloupas, joins a panel session to discuss the latest in PV cell and module manufacturing trends.

Themes addressed in this session:

  • Technology trends in PV manufacturing: How high efficiency n-type cells are progressing toward large-scale manufacturing at competitive cost.

  • A closer look at the latest cell concepts – heterojunction and TOPCon – and the performance advantages that make them a worthwhile investment compared with established PERC products.

  • Following these trends downstream, we ask when and where does it already make sense to deploy the highest efficiency products, and how can we expect this picture to develop in the coming years.
